EN ISO 14025:2026 verifiers and LCA professionals encouraged to prepare now!

The revised EN ISO 14025:2026 has been published and introduces important changes for EPD programmes and for professionals involved in developing, reviewing and verifying Environmental Product Declarations.

The changes cover a broad range of subjects, including:

  • General Programme Instructions and programme-operator responsibilities;
  • development, maintenance and review of PCRs;
  • requirements for EPD project reports;
  • expanded EPD content requirements;
  • EPD types and prospective EPDs;
  • updates and reassessment of EPDs;
  • verification reports and EPD-tool verification;
  • chain-of-custody models and comparability.

The revised standard requires greater transparency and clearer documentation. For example, EPDs must provide more specific information on their scope, production locations, data periods, system boundaries and omitted life-cycle stages.

The verification process is also described more explicitly. Verification must confirm that the EPD accurately reflects the supporting documentation and that its information is valid and scientifically sound. A verification report must document the process and be available to interested parties on request, subject to confidentiality.

ECO Platform is expected to incorporate the relevant changes into its Verification Protocol over the coming six months. MRPI will subsequently update its own Verification Protocol.

MRPI nevertheless encourages verifiers and LCA professionals to begin preparing immediately. Please read the presentation in full and consult the relevant sections of the revised standard yourself. Summaries and future guidance can support implementation, but they do not replace each professional’s responsibility to understand the requirements.

Review your procedures, templates and current projects, discuss the implications with colleagues and record questions that may require further interpretation.

MRPI will provide additional information as the ECO Platform implementation progresses.
